It is with deep compassion and heartfelt concern that we share this tribute to Zoey McCoy, a gifted and vibrant senior at Saint Andrew’s School, whose life was suddenly and tragically altered by a devastating skiing accident during her spring break in Colorado.
Zoey, known for her intelligence, determination, and bright spirit, suffered multiple life-threatening injuries while skiing. These included shattered ribs, internal bleeding, a ruptured spleen, and a traumatic brain injury resulting in a brain bleed. In addition, she endured severe facial trauma, including fractures to her face and forehead that required surgical reconstruction with titanium plates, as well as a shattered eye socket. Since the accident, Zoey has undergone several critical surgeries and remains in the intensive care unit, heavily sedated as medical professionals work tirelessly to stabilize her condition.
This heartbreaking turn of events has come at a time when Zoey should have been celebrating the final milestones of her high school journey—cherishing moments with friends, attending prom, preparing for graduation, and looking ahead to college and a promising future. Instead, she now faces an incredibly challenging path toward recovery, one that will demand strength, resilience, and unwavering support.
Zoey’s journey is far from over. Once she is strong enough to leave the hospital, she will require extensive rehabilitation, ongoing medical care, and physical therapy to regain her strength and independence. The road ahead will be long, and the emotional, physical, and financial toll on her and her family is immense. In addition to mounting medical expenses, there are significant costs associated with safely transporting her back home to Florida when the time comes.
