A tragic crash in Missouri has claimed the life of a student-athlete from Concordia University, Nebraska and left three others injured, according to university officials and law enforcement.
The student who died has been identified as 22-year-old Matthew Wing of Seward. Wing was a junior and a member of Concordia’s track and field team. The three other occupants of the vehicle were also Concordia students and teammates, underscoring the deep impact of the incident on the university’s athletic community.
In a statement, Concordia University expressed its grief, saying the campus community is heartbroken and asking for prayers for the families, friends, and all those affected. The university called for strength and comfort during this difficult time, emphasizing faith and unity in the face of tragedy.
According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred শুক্রবার night at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Interstate 49 near Harrisonville. Authorities said the four students were traveling northbound in a Toyota Prius when a Ford Explorer, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, struck their vehicle head-on.
The impact caused the Prius to catch fire, while the Ford Explorer came to rest in the median. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Wing, who was identified as the driver of the Prius, was pronounced dead. His three passengers were transported to nearby hospitals—one with serious injuries and two with minor injuries.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, described as a 30-year-old man from Lee’s Summit, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have not released his name, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
