Sheena Horsley Carlisle, UK Death-Obituary: In Loving Memory of Clinical Educator Sheena Horsley

It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Sheena Horsley, Clinical Educator in Theatres, who died last week. Her loss is deeply felt across the Trust and among the many colleagues, patients, and friends whose lives she touched throughout an extraordinary career spanning nearly 40 years.

Sheena dedicated her professional life to nursing, serving with distinction across theatres and critical care. Over the decades, she held a number of key roles, most notably as Matron within theatre departments at both West Cumberland Hospital and the Cumberland Infirmary. More recently, she brought her wealth of experience to her role as a Clinical Educator, where she continued to guide, mentor, and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals. Her contributions also extended to the Elective Care Suite, Critical Care Outreach, Intensive Care, and critical care education, reflecting both her versatility and unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care.

Sheena was widely respected not only for her clinical expertise, but for her compassionate leadership and approachable nature. She was known for her open-door policy, offering time, understanding, and honest guidance to anyone in need. Her kindness, warmth, and ability to listen without judgment made her a trusted source of support across the organisation. Many will also fondly remember her personal touches—her humour, her thoughtful advice, and even her enthusiasm for sharing skincare tips—small gestures that made a lasting impact.

Above all, Sheena was deeply devoted to her family, of whom she spoke with immense pride and love. Her dedication to those closest to her was evident in all she did, and our hearts go out to them during this incredibly difficult time.

Sheena’s passing leaves a significant void within the theatres and across the wider organisation. However, her legacy endures through the countless individuals she mentored, the standards she upheld, and the compassion she demonstrated every day.

We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to her daughter Laura, her partner Steve, her family, friends, and colleagues. A funeral service will be held at Distington Hall Crematorium on Monday, 30 March 2026 at 12pm. Attendees are invited to wear colour, particularly sage green, in her memory.

Thank you, Sheena, for your remarkable service. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
