It is with deep sadness that Baseball NSW announces the passing of Grant “Buster” Anderson, a highly respected figure and lifelong contributor to the sport of baseball. His sudden departure leaves a profound void in the baseball community, where he touched the lives of countless players, coaches, and administrators over decades of service.
Grant was instrumental in the formation of the Ku-Ring-Gai Baseball Club and the North Shore Club, helping to establish strong foundations for local baseball programs. As an administrator, he also contributed significantly to the Sydney University Baseball Club, demonstrating a commitment to developing both the organizational and competitive aspects of the game.
In the 1990s, Grant served on the coaching staff of the NSW Under-18s team, which competed in the Australian National Championship, exemplifying his dedication to nurturing young talent. With the introduction of the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme, he became an instructor and played a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum for coaching programs, ensuring that knowledge and best practices were passed on to the next generation of coaches.
Most recently, Grant was heavily involved with Manly State League programs and contributed to Junior Programs and Junior Development initiatives. His mentorship, guidance, and encouragement have left a lasting positive impact on both junior and senior players. His influence extended far beyond the field, inspiring many to carry forward his passion, professionalism, and love for the game.
The baseball community mourns the loss of a true servant of the sport. His legacy of leadership, dedication, and mentorship will continue to inspire future generations of players and coaches.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Grant’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Buster—your contributions and spirit will never be forgotten.
