It is with profound sadness that we pay tribute to Aaron Mulligan, a beloved son, friend, and proud Irishman from Sligo, who tragically passed away in Australia this week following a road traffic collision. In his 30s, Aaron’s life was cut short far too soon, leaving a deep sense of loss among all who knew and loved him.
Aaron sustained a severe brain injury in the days following the incident in Perth. Despite the dedicated and tireless efforts of medical staff, he passed away peacefully on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day—a day that makes his loss feel even more poignant for those who cherish his Irish roots. In a final act of compassion, the team at Royal Perth Hospital ensured Aaron was kept alive until his mother, Mairead Mulligan, could travel to Australia to be by his side, offering comfort and love in his final moments.
Even in death, Aaron’s generosity and spirit of giving shone brightly. He underwent a lengthy organ donation procedure, lasting approximately ten hours, through which he has given the gift of life to several individuals. This extraordinary act stands as a powerful reflection of his character—selfless, kind, and always thinking of others. His legacy will now live on not only in the hearts of those who knew him, but also in the lives he has saved.
Aaron was widely known and deeply admired in Sligo Town, where he built lasting friendships and left a meaningful mark on his community. Having moved to Perth in 2024, he quickly became part of a close-knit Irish community abroad, where he was equally valued and cherished. The outpouring of grief and support from both Ireland and Australia is a testament to the impact he had on so many lives.
A memorial Mass will be held in his honor on Saturday, March 21, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Scarborough, Western Australia, as family, friends, and the wider community come together to remember and celebrate his life.
We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his mother Mairead, his family, and all who mourn his passing. May Aaron Mulligan’s brave and generous soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire love, kindness, and hope.
