A Kiowa County jury has found a man guilty in connection with a 2025 homicide in Mountain Park, bringing closure to a case that has deeply impacted the local community.
The investigation began in the early morning hours of March 14, 2025, when officers with the Mountain Park Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a residence along State Highway 183. Upon arrival, officers discovered 63-year-old Sandy Killian deceased at the scene. Authorities later confirmed that Killian died from apparent gunshot wounds.
Following the initial response, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was requested to lead the investigation. Special agents processed the scene, collected evidence, and conducted interviews, ultimately identifying 53-year-old Chad Carl Cummings as the primary suspect.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Cummings’ residence. He was arrested the same day, March 14, 2025, and booked into the Kiowa County Jail. He was formally charged with First-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm After Former Felony Conviction.
After nearly a year of legal proceedings, the case concluded on March 13, 2026, when a Kiowa County jury found Cummings guilty on both counts. The jury recommended a sentence of life imprisonment for the First-Degree Murder conviction, along with an additional ten years for the firearm charge.
The OSBI expressed appreciation to the multiple agencies that assisted throughout the investigation, including the Mountain Park Police Department, Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, Washita County Sheriff’s Office, Snyder Police Department, the Kiowa County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
This verdict marks a significant step toward justice for the victim and the Mountain Park community.
