It is with deep sadness that the City of Roanoke, Texas, Police Department announces the passing of retired Officer Shannon Perry, who passed away following a medical emergency on Monday, March 16, 2026. Officer Perry dedicated more than two decades of his life to the service and protection of the Roanoke community, leaving a lasting legacy of leadership, mentorship, and commitment.
Officer Perry served the Roanoke Police Department for over 21 years before retiring in October 2022. During his tenure, he held numerous key roles, including Field Training Officer and Firearms Instructor, and contributed significantly to both the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations. His expertise and dedication were recognized across the department, and his guidance helped shape countless officers’ careers.
In addition to his departmental work, Officer Perry was a longstanding member of the North Tarrant Regional SWAT team. He served in a variety of capacities, including Operator, Sniper, Sniper Team Leader, Assistant Team Leader, and ultimately Team Leader. His leadership, experience, and dedication were instrumental in advancing the team’s capabilities and ensuring the safety of the community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Officer Perry was known as a trusted teammate, a mentor, and a friend to all who served alongside him. His commitment to service extended beyond law enforcement; he was a proud veteran of the United States Army, reflecting a lifelong dedication to protecting and serving others.
